That’s a very interesting sensitivity rating for an IEM with even the Hifiman HE400i chiming in at 93db and a 12db drop from the original T10’s rating of 102db. It looks better and more integrated on the T20 now. I really didn’t get the feeling there was any uneven peaking, especially in the lower treble performance. It adds a very satisfying level of articulation and sparkle. The T20’s vocal presence now is more forward, open, and far more engaging. If you’re planning to stick with the reference filter either amp will be just fine with very easy pot control on both but tonally I gave a slight edge to the Picollo. I especially love the clarity of he T20 now that they offer it without cables just as much as I did when they had one. The T20 midrange is a whole different ball game now to the T10i. It is nitpicking but it is a new earphone so perhaps some new filters? For 1-5 I would say 4 for modern genre with the t20 and 2.5 for the A73 and 4 for classics, acoustics for the A73 and 2.5 for the t20. RHA TrueConnect Review. The bass dynamics of the DX90 is never my favorite signature where there is already an enhanced bass response. The MA750 single dynamic driver for under a hundred quid really upped the expectations of what a relatively cheap earphone could and should sound like. Some compromise a bit less, some compromise more, but there’s always something one has to trade in for the convenience of wireless. The extension is a very welcome addition to the T20 over the T10i. Is the T20 suited for mostly classical (chamber and symphonic ), movie soundtracks and some R&B of the late 70s and 80s? One mic on the back of the earpiece focuses on the ambient noise, while the stem mic picks up your voice. Disclaimer: The RHA CL2 was sent to us is a discounted sample in exchange for our honest opinion. Perhaps the neutral or flat filter and certainly more ‘reference’ than the reference filter. (Using the reference filter/double flange tips). the T20 sounds optimal at 60 on its digital volume compared to the T10i starting to flex its muscles almost 10 steps higher at 68-70. I would draw the line to say the T20 is a mid-centric earphone in its own right. The RHA T20 is a single dynamic driver universal IEM featuring the company’s proprietary DualCoil™ driver technology and switchable filters. Offering up to 8 hours of playtime (or 32+ hours when you use the rechargeable case), they’re a great partner … (I’m joking, do it now!). Listen to this . The unboxing was a one-of-a-kind experience … I never thought that a company could showcase its in-ear monitors (IEMs) like this! Rather than emphasize the treble for me it tones down the bass and fullness of the sound overall so you get a much more even response but one which lacks a little musicality compared to the reference and bass filter. Alas this is no longer a possibility on the wireless edition, as the cable is pre-moulded with stiff plastic guides. There are not many headphones which are near-identical when used with and without wires, but this is one of those cases. Build quality is very, very good, with no apparent weak points – save for the MMCX connector, which alas is notoriously more prone to breaking than alternatives. I didn’t quite have the same low levels of background noise using the T20 on the Theorem 720 as I had with the T10 sadly. I think most users will not change the filters very often one you settle on your preference (mine is reference). RHA T20 is the British company’s brand new flagship headset. I am a big fan of RHA and its line of cost busting earphones. Leatherette zipper pouch. It slams hard but the definition is still tight, the snap is still there and there is very little bloating. The Lotoo Paw Golds warmish yet highly resolving profile matched incredibly well with the T20’s treble filter also providing a slightly better level of separation and soundstage than some of the other DAPs mentioned. Incoming calls activate a vibration motor on the earphones that gives the user a tactile feedback on top of the auditive one. More information is available on RHA’s website. Soundphile Review: headphones reviews, earphones reviews, IEMs reviews, speakers reviews, Bluetooth speakers reviews - and more. What I wrote back then still holds true today and applies to the T20 Wireless, too. It could be argued this entire review is a statement of preference and in some ways, you would be right. Subtract one fro… In this case the hiss is low in volume, but enough to be audible if you are listening quiet tracks at low volume. This site uses Akismet to reduce spam. I first started reviewing in the late 80s (ouch!). The result? These IEMs contain everything that you’d need to fit them in your ears. Even with its slightly weighted bass response over the RX I preferred how it kept the treble slightly smoother and more flowing especially when using the treble filter. Am I reading this right? Thank you for your response. The shells are made of steel painted black and are extremely well made, with an odd smooth-yet-rough surface finish. One small difference I did note on the T20 over the T10i was the memory wire which is now coated with the same sleeve materials as the rest of the cable, unlike the T10i which had a more transparent plastic white coating. As the in-house audiophile, I put the RHA T20 wireless neckband earbuds to the test, using them as my main earbuds. I would hazard a guess and state that the dual coil technology just needs that little bit of extra juice to get both coils working at optimal levels compared to the older single-coil T10 or any single coil dynamic out in the market today. RHA created a product that is by all means an evolution over the classic they created five years ago – not only because it offers more freedom by doing away with cords, but because it adds convenience and customisability through the MMCX connector. RHA fitted the T20 Wireless with a slew of accessories – as they always do with all of their products. For the DX90, 195 is plenty fine but 200 is where the T10 starts kicking in. Sound. It offers great sound quality, superb comfort and a great accessory set at an affordable price, which makes for a quite interesting proposition. However, they were kind of itchy inside mine—more on that later. This can be an issue if the source’s volume is too high even when it is at its lowest setting (which is exactly what I experienced, alas). That leveling off at 5k with only a few minor bumps up to 10k meant the T20 has a nice consistent level of clarity and energy but never sounded overly sharp or hot. Includes swappable tuning filters to increase treble or bass. The box includes the earpieces, a wireless cable (sorry for the apparent nonsense), a cable with a 3.5 mm jack, a carrying case, a set of three nozzles with an acoustic filter embedded in each and a set of eartips (six pairs of single-flange silicone tips, two pairs of double-flange silicone tips and two pairs of Comply foam eartips). Compatible with the high-fidelity aptX™ codec, and with 12 hours battery, RHA’s SecureFlex neckband enables you to enjoy the T20 Wireless wherever you are, and whatever you’re doing. The treble filter attenuates bass response, making it easier to pick out high notes and resonances. How could they be any better? Thank you! 10 sets of different sized ear tips, including silicone, double flange and foam. Even as I write today they have a new budget-busting S500i single dynamic driver unit coming out for £39.95 which I presume will take center stage from the MA-350. The earphone drivers look and feel bulletproof and feature ear hooks with memory wire. Certainly, a mid-range or vocal presence filter would come in handy as the “4th filter” just to give an added dimension. Glad it helped. It is priced at $239.95. The RX ran a little hotter on the top end for my liking and didn’t quite have the same fullness I got in the midrange with the Picollo. 16ohms at 90db? Distortion-free audio, powerful and deep music with crystal-clear details that all RHA fans have come to expect. It’s relatively minor on the low gain but very noticeable on mid and high gain. I think there is mileage in that. The option to change filters is nice. The seal of the T20 is just excellent at this price range, or at any price range for that matter for a universal IEM. But as in RHA tradition, there are tons of accessories that allow one to experience the RHA T20 Wireless the way they want – both wired and wireless. Their even cheaper MA-350 which we reviewed way back in 2012 still looks and sounds great for the price. The outer coil targets the mids and treble whilst the inner coil targets the bass. That’s a third heavier than RHA’s main rival at this price point, the Award-winning Shure SE425, but it needn’t be an issue thanks to support from the T20s’ over-ear cabling. Volume control is directly linked to that of the source. The fit is even better with my usual double flange tips and the memory foams that come as part of the usual excellent range of tips RHA provides in their eye-catching steel plate holder. We thank RHA for this opportunity. I will just have to read up on reviews for a $300 or less IEMs suitable for my music preference. It’s not just there for weight balancing, there’s a little pinhole mic at the bottom, which picks up your voice more clearly. Founder & Owner of headfonics.com. Personally I would not have called this filter the treble filter when matched with the T20. Of course comfort is deeply personal, so take these considerations with the due amount of salt in your pinch. Living in Glasgow, Scotland but born and raised near Milan, Italy, I got the the passion for music listening as a legacy from my father and my grandfather. The U shaped (some would say even slight v shape) frequency still has some mild weakness in the lower midrange and the bass is still a prevalent factor. That’s a great thing as one can then enjoy their favourite tracks in whatever way they please knowing that the quality is unaltered. Just like the Bakoon, I can’t reach a zero noise level also on the pot with audio still noticeable even at zero and I have slightly less play on the volume pot than I had with the T10i. How time flies. The T20 is a more flexible IEM for pairing with DAPs over the older T10i especially now with the filters having a more desirable switch up on the signatures than before. I would say the midrange is also more forward and smooth. The RHA T20 IEM will sit along side (Not Replace) the RHA t10i in their line up. Any reaction from the manufacturer ? This site uses Akismet to reduce spam. The RHA T20 (which doesn’t have a mic) comes in a nice silver if that’s more your style. The RHA T20 wireless (caught on sale for $187) were the next best sound with so much more versatility. RHA’s TrueConnects are clearly inspired by the Apple AirPods, with a soft touch plastic stem pointing down when in your ears. On the Gen FiiO X5. The RHA T20 Wireless features the Bluetooth 4.1 connection but it adds the aptX codec on top of it, which actually improves the sound quality over the default SBC codec. Bass, whilst still an aggressive force on the T20, is now much tighter and better defined than the T10i though slightly leaner. Designed in Glasgow, UK with a 3-year warranty, our earphones are designed for people who expect more. I have reported on technology for major Italian publications since 2011. It does sport a u shape overall and there is a slow dip from the bass from around 300hz into the lower mids that lacks a tiny bit of bite. Each filter now has a defined effect that I find favorable and interesting whereas before the T10i treble filter was the only filter I found to have the best balance. Throwing in some sort of filter focused on the midrange (think the presence switch on the SA-43 customs from M-Fidelity) would be very welcome indeed. Thanks. The box contains six pairs of single flange eartips (S, M, L), two pairs of double flange ear tips (S, M), and two pairs of Com… It is priced at $239.95. The T20 bass goes up quite a few notches but unlike the T10 tuned with the bass filter which was quite wild and distracting to the point of, well, pointless, this time I actually quite enjoyed the bass filter with the T20.   So what else is available if you don’t want to spend quite so much. The RHA T20 Wireless offer very good passive isolation from noise, which makes them ideal to use in noisy, crowded environments – e.g. Detachable earpieces can be used wirelessly or with included cable for passive, wired listening. This is true on both the Bluetooth cable and on the 3.5 mm one. The T20 also comes packed with the same filter technology of the T10i with a small metal silver plate holding the treble and bass filters in champagne (treble) and black colors (bass) and the reference filter pre-fitted out of the box. I already have the Fidue A73 that you also did a review. They’re as close as possible to paragon Bluetooth earphones: they offer detachable cables, a wireless module/cable that is comfortable and which actually adds value and convenience to the product, a wide array of accessories and great sound. I do not currently have any earphones in the same price range to compare the RHA T20i to, but I can compare them to lower-tiered earphones: RHA T10: the T20 have a softer and quieter bass, together with more prominent mids and more detailed treble. I also have Fiio’s X1 and X3II. Yes, it turns it into a bass head IEM but this time the treble stays reasonably clear and strong and the signature takes on a more v shape type response curve which is ideal for EDM. Certainly, it is a very different experience to the laid back treble performance of the T10i even with the treble filter thrown in. The bass on the T20 feels far less exaggerated and a little bit more accurate than the T10i which actually sounded somewhat loose after side by side comparisons. You have written about ‘ a moderately strong & constant background hiss’ with this wireless earphones. In addition, the custom diaphragm allows for the equal focus to the bass and treble. This review was done as part of a demo tour done with the Head-Fi community. It is probably one of the heaviest small IEM’s I have in the hand but the distribution of weight and small form factor means they sit flush and easy in my ear without any discomfort on the outer ear. Review: RHA T20 – It Just Keeps Getting Better. The one slight roadblock they had was the launch of the T10i last year. The cable itself is the same 1.35m multi-core OFC cable they used on the T10i terminated with a gold plated 3.5mm jack in their usual attractively branded metal jack housing. I tried the RHA T20 Wireless using a HiBy R5 DAP and a Honor 9 smartphone. The drawbacks though is the awful low-level channel imbalance on the Bakoon so for those who like it quiet best save the money and go for a high performing IEM amp. Although the RHA T10i is excellent in its own right, the RHA T20 is an impressive step up. At this price point it’s not often that you find products built so well. clarify if this is a one-off phenomenon with your copy or is consistent over the model ? Feel free to leave a comment. There’s also NFC which adds convenience to the pairing process. The RHA T20 Wireless is a terrific pair of Bluetooth earphones for anyone seeking accurate audio and an excellent in-ear fit. The RHA T20 Wireless retail for £/€/$199. Perhaps RHA would consider selling filter packs and go modular much like Hifiman with their amp cards. There are countless products whose wireless counterpart is not as good as the wired one. You do not need to find a neutral source this time to get the most out of the T20’s response. RHA rates the battery life at 12 hours, but I got closer to 10 hours of battery life with the T20 Wireless. There’s also no microphone if one opts for the usual jack. Everything is a touch more forward with plenty of sparkle and energy, especially around the 2-5k range. These or the Campfire Audio Nova……..darn hard decision. There are some who really loved the T10 and I can understand why but for me the T20 is a step up in terms of balance, clarity, and usefulness of the filters. That dip continues until around 1k and rises around 1-3k making the vocal range stand out that little bit more alongside the bass. It makes for a very good first impression. RHA T20 Wireless 1 RHA T20 Wireless review 1 wireless and wired headphones 1 wireless headphones 5. For the purpose of this review, I will only compare the T20 with my M750i, which I have in my possession. The bass still has a strong bias but this time it’s not a hugely colored experience like the T10i. Let’s find out in this RHA T20 Earphones Review. The packaging and accessories were way above anything else out there in the market. IN the short space of 3-4 years RHA are becoming the darlings of budget-busting earphone tech in much the same way FiiO cornered the budget-busting portable amp market. Maintaining the sound of the audiophile-grade T20 wired IEMs, the RHA T20 Wireless employs RHA's proprietary DualCoil™ drivers. Learn how your comment data is processed. 3 sets of filters – bass, reference and treble. I was on the fence myself during the review and it wasn’t until I threw it into a Bakoon HPA-01M portable amp and a dose of Major Lazer did I get blown away by the sheer brute force and depth of the bass the T10i was capable of. That’s a minor issue, but one that requires mention anyway. I wouldn’t call it analytical either but it is a more linear tuning I would tend to use for testing and reviewing than the other two. RHA T20 Wireless review: Price and competition. Still, the T20 Wireless price of £200 is a little on the high side. I still rate the T20 as a musical IEM built for modern musical genres but this time everything just feels more controlled and tighter making it a far more flexible than the T10i. The connection is rock-solid and with very good range, too; even when performing my usual test of going from a room to another on the other side of the house I could never find a place where audio would stutter or interrupt. It was a bass head signature done very well indeed but nevertheless a consumer sound that alienated a few hardcore fans. It does weigh quite a bit more than conventional plastics molded earphones at 39g but slightly less than the T10i by 2g. The filter system of course isn’t new and the filters basically are the same as with the T10. The shape of the shells is such that the T20 have been among the most comfortable earphone I’ve tried to date. Something like the DX90 or the Cayin N6 will pair very well indeed with the DX90 sounding excellent with the reference and treble filter and the Cayin N6’s very detailed and transparent signature working well with the bass filter. Hey there! I have no way to sample each and every unit, but this is a known limitation of Bluetooth headphones regardless of manufacturer and price range – it’s something you will always find, it will just vary in magnitude.
